This information provides guidance on the management of Gastroenterology patients across Western Devon during the Covid-19 pandemic.
DRSS referrals continue to be triaged.
There needs to be sufficient information given to enable this to be done appropriately. At present, the ability to perform endoscopic procedures is severely limited, please refer to endoscopy guidance for more information.
The CT colonography service is also currently suspended. If abdominal malignancy is suspected and investigation is considered appropriate, a CT AP or TAP can be requested.
IBD & Nutrition/Intestinal failure advice can be obtained from the specialist nurse led telephone service below:
IBD - telephone: 01752 439224
Nutrition - telephone: 01752 439227
All new routine referrals will be clinically triaged and will either be added to a waiting list or, if appropriate, A&G will be given.
Please ensure that a practice-based system is in place to check daily for returning referrals with A&G.
Prior to making a routine referral, please ensure that any appropriate Policy or CRG has been reviewed and that all the suggested investigations and management options have been considered.
All routine appointments have been changed to telephone / video consultation where appropriate.
All referrals for endoscopy procedures are being reviewed by a gastroenterologist and a clinical decision made to book immediately, defer to post COVID-19 or to arrange an alternative test.
The 'ward' consultant Gastroenterologist can be contacted via switchboard telephone: 01752 202082
