4.7 Analgesics

Pain control must be reviewed frequently. When changing analgesics because of ineffective pain control please remember to stop those not required. Avoid multiple drugs with the same mechanism of action. At any review assess the efficacy of all drugs being taken and consider stopping Rx if the patient doesn't perceive a significant improvement in their symptoms after 4 weeks.

It is important that analgesics are given regularly for chronic pain as they are more effective in preventing the development of pain than relieving established pain
