- The above supplement is included for use by the Acute Trust dentists. The Department of Health issued guidance, Delivering Better Oral Health (June 2014). This indicates that Dental Practitioners need to assess the patient, undertake any necessary treatment, which may include prescribing the appropriate fluoride regime, and then review the patient whenever is deemed necessary. It is therefore felt that GP clinical expertise is not sufficient to examine or assess the patients need for these products, and prescribing should remain with the initiating dentist.
