LNG-IUD fits/refits can now be performed for non contraceptive reasons at Devon Sexual Health in specified clinics and for HRT purposes only, see patient flow chart.

The service can be accessed via self-referral or via GP referral, a proforma template is available on our website.

IUS fits for heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) will only be considered when referred by gynaecology or GP with gynae letter outlining the management and investigations done, on a named patient basis.

Exclusions to this offer are:

• Anyone over age 55
• Any UK Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use (UKMEC) exclusion
• Heavy menstrual bleeding - unless referred as detailed above.
• Endometriosis
• Known uterine cavity distortion e.g. fibroids known to impact endometrial cavity.
• Previous endometrial ablation
• Any situation where pre-fit gynaecological investigations are required such as a scan or hysteroscopy

The service will be staffed by GP/nurse coil fitters and there will be no scope for investigation or imaging.

Devon Sexual Health will not be providing the oestrogen component of the HRT regimen or managing the menopause and HRT needs beyond the device fit and immediate post fit complications.
